United Supermarkets donates $40,000 to Lubbock-Cooper ISD to help with technology and mobile learning opportunities

Lubbock, Texas — On Monday, United Supermarkets presented a check for $40,000 to Lubbock-Cooper Independent School District to help provide a boost of technology and mobile learning opportunities for students in the district.

“Lubbock-Cooper ISD is dedicated to serving all students with learning opportunities which accommodate their abilities, accessibility, and goals. In modernized society, this includes the integration of technology,” said Keith Bryant, LCISD Superintendent. Today’s students are digital natives who not only understand and communicate via technology, but often learn best when their educational environment includes technological devices.”

This donation will directly assist the district as it continues its effort to provide students with more technology opportunities as well as mobile learning opportunities.

“Education has always been a cornerstone of our values at United Supermarkets,” said Sidney Hopper, president of The United Family. “We are excited to make this contribution to the Lubbock-Cooper Independent School District as they continue their efforts to serve their students in the best ways possible.”

“On days like today, we see how important it is that every student has equal access to technology and the connectivity required to keep learning happening despite the circumstances – winter weather or a pandemic. We have all learned a lot through this pandemic, not the least of which is that we must be nimble and be able to transition quickly to new models, and this will help equip Lubbock Cooper students to do that,” Hopper added.

Hopper continued, “Many of the students of Lubbock Cooper will join our ranks – currently, one in 70 people in Lubbock works for The United Family. We are invested in this community and education has always been one of our focus areas of charitable support. When we learned the district could make these funds go twice as far with a matching grant opportunity, it was an easy decision to invest here. ”

With an economically disadvantaged student population of approximately 37 percent, this donation will broaden the educational horizons of thousands of current Pirates and their families and students for years to come.

“I speak on behalf of the entire Pirate community when I express how deeply grateful we are for our longtime partnership with United Supermarkets,” Bryant said. “The funds they are providing extend far beyond a donation – this is an investment in our students, and a show of support for 21st-century learning and equal access to technology for all children in our district.”
